Internal Procedures for Programs that Limit Submissions
What is meant by Limited Submission?
Occasionally, federal agencies, foundations, and University programs limit how many applications/nominations the UCI campus may submit for specific awards and prizes. When a call for proposals is "limited," the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research (VCR) announces the program to the relevant academic unit heads, coordinates an internal review, and notifies the applicants of the results. When the number of applications received by the VCR exceeds the limit (often only one), a faculty ad hoc committee is convened through the Academic Senate Council on Research, Computing and Libraries to conduct the internal review.
For the internal campus review, preparation of a full application is not required. Check the programs screened by the Office of Research or at the Dept. or School level for details on what should be submitted to the VCR at the preliminary stage. The selected candidates/PIs are notified as soon as possible, usually 3-4 weeks before the agency deadline, to allow ample time to prepare a full application. Selected candidates/PIs are required to follow University and sponsor guidelines for the final submission. Final proposals must be submitted through the Office of Research Administration (ORA), with the Administrative Approval (AA) form, and all the appropriate campus approvals.
