CBRA Celebrates Biomedical Research Awareness Day
Today, the California Biomedical Research Association, it's members, and the general public celebrate Biomedical Research Awareness Day.
The Nobel Prize for Medicine and Physiology is regarded as the highest honor within the biomedical- research community, and it is fitting therefore, that founder Affred Nobel's birthday (October 21st) should be celebrated as Biomedical Research Awareness Day.
On this day the nation celebrates and honors the vital role biomedical research plays in improving human and animal health.
The biomedical research community in California is recognized as the world leader in discovering knowledge that promotes health and the treatment of diseases, and has helped increase the lifespan of people around the world through the development of vaccines, antibiotics, medical devices, and cures. This same research has improved the lives of countless animals as well. Vaccines have been developed to fight animal diseases, such as rabies and distemper in dogs and cats, and feline leukemia. Treatments have also been discovered for artificial joints for dogs, pet cancer and heart disease.
We encourage everyone to recognize October 21, 2009, as Biomedical Research Awareness Day in California and to take pride in the significant role California has played in the growing success of biomedical research.
CBRA, along with the California Biotechnology Foundation have been working on arrangements for an official Governor's Proclamation for Biomedical Research Day on Oct. 21st. Assemblymember Jerry Hill and Senator Ellen Corbett's office have arranged to join together for a joint Assembly Resolution for Biomedical Research Day. Assemblymember Hill will also put forward language in January to arrange for an official Biomedical Research Day again in October of 2010 and henceforth.
