About the UCI hSCRO Committee

The UCI Human Stem Cell Research Oversight (hSCRO) Committee assures that human stem cell activities are in accordance with California state regulations and UCI policies and procedures. The UCI hSCRO is of service to UCI and through an agreement between campuses, UC Santa Barbara.

California Legislature mandated the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) in Health and Safety Code Section 125118 to develop a comprehensive set of guidelines, which would fully address the ethical, legal, and social aspects of stem cell research as well as ensure the systematic monitoring and reporting of human stem cell research activity in California that is not fully funded by Proposition 71 money granted through the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine (CIRM) (Senate Bill 322, Chapter 506, Statutes of 2003; Senate Bill 1260, Chapter 483, Statutes of 2006).

Accordingly, the UCI hSCRO follows CDPH regulations, and CIRM regulations, as applicable.

Important!

ZOT hSCRO is live effective September 15, 2025.  As part of the transition from our prior hSCRO system (KRP) to ZOT hSCRO, any protocol or transaction that was not hSCRO approved by September 4, 2025 must be re-entered in ZOT hSCRO to continue the review process. A ZOT hSCRO submission requires the completion of the SmartForm and a Word  Protocol Narrative, which is uploaded into ZOT hSCRO as an attachment. Use your KRP PDF for reference when completing the requisite Protocol Narrative.

Questions on the new system? Join us for ZOT IRB and hSCRO Office Hours!

Sessions will be held via Zoom on September 23rd and September 30th, 11:00AM-11:50AM.
